SCPS use Google Workspace for Education to enable children to continue their education with us if remote learning is imposed (for example as it was during the COVID-19 pandemic). We also use a variety of other on-line resources including Times Table Rockstars, EdShed Spelling, Oxford Owl (Read, Write Inc) phonics and reading schemes which pupils can access from home. We continue to be prepared to implement high quality remote education if required to do so by the Government in the future but our priority is to deliver high-quality face-to-face education to all pupils.
Remote education should only ever be considered as a short-term measure and as a last resort where in person attendance is not possible. Remote education should not be viewed as an equal alternative to attendance in school. The Government expect schools to consider it only as a last resort when the alternative would be no education, and only after it has been established that the pupil is, or will be, absent from school. In such cases, remote education can have the benefit of allowing absent pupils to keep on track with their education and stay connected to their teachers and peers.
