Raising money for Haiti

by School staff on February 5, 2010

Today every class spent a few minutes outside laying silver coins down on a large map of Haiti. We’re not yet sure how much money everyone raised for the Haiti fund (there’s lots of counting to be done), but it’s a lot!

Check out the photos of the money raising in the gallery and the slideshow video below.

The programme is aimed at those that need it most and targets families that do not have access to a computer or the internet at home.

Your snow photos and writing

My Snowy Story -  by Adam B (Year 4)

On Wednesday morning I woke up to see that every where was covered in white snow. I went to walk to the shops on the way there I had a snowball fight but I did not win, but it was very cold.

When we got back home I had a snowball fight with my daddy and my dog murphy. My daddy throw a snowball at my head. It was hard because my daddy was better than me at snowball fights. I tried to throw a snowball at my daddy but it missed.

Me and my daddy tried to make a snowman but murphy kept biting at it. I gave up at making a snowman because it was to cold for me, so I went inside, took out all of the snow out of my back and sat down by the warm fire.

Snow Day poem -  by Emma C (Year 4)

I looked out my window and saw the snow
falling in front of me.

It looks like a white velvety blanket across our garden.

The sky is heavy ready to drop a whole more
of its sparkly snowflakes.

I run downstairs to get wrapped up
to play in the fluff.

We build snowmen families
and have snow ball fights.

After hours of fun we go
inside and have hot chocolate and biscuits.

Snow Story – by Katie (Year 4) and Jack A (Year 2)

It had snowed very hard. Katie and Jack were visiting their Grandma in the country, had to stay in all day. When they went to bed it was still snowing and every time they woke up during the night they could hear the wind sighing and whistling around the house and through the branches of the trees…

The next morning the sun shone bright. What a glorious day! How the branches of the trees sparkled.

“It looks like they have been sprinkled with gold dust and diamonds,” said Jack.

“Oh Grandma, please hurry with breakfast, we are going to build a snowman!” cried Katie and Jack bursting into the kitchen.

Grandma smiled and told them they need breakfast as building a snowman was hard work. They were soon out in the snow and what a fantastic time they had, the snowman didn’t grow very fast as they had to keep stopping to throw snowballs at each other. When Grandma called them in for dinner they both wondered where the time had gone.

After dinner Jack was looking out of the window, when he saw two little birds huddled together on a tree branch.

“Oh Katie, come here!” he called. “See those poor little birds, they look frozen and really hungry.”

“Poor little things,” replied Katie.”Doesn’t it make you feel mean to know that we’ve had a great time in the snow, which has covered all of the places they like to get their food?”

“Let us go and get some food from Grandma and throw it to them,” said Jack. “Perhaps they will find it.”

The little birds were soon chirping and flying around happily and Jack said it sounds as if they kept saying “Thank you”.

We wonder if all of the other children will be as kind as Katie and Jack…
