This week we will be using and applying the Maths we learn. We will be using what we know to solve problems involving money and to investigate general statements to see if they are always true. In Science lessons we will be looking at what forces are and the effects they have. This week we will be producing art work for a national art competition – ‘Face Britain’ (www.facebritain.org.uk). We will be looking at self-portraits done by artists and other children. We will then produce our own self-portraits which will go into an online gallery and be part of a special portrait of HM The Queen (which is going to be projected onto Buckingham Palace as part of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations).

We have yet another busy week in Year 2! The children are learning about symmetry in Maths and we will be looking at how to make symmetrical patterns. Here are a couple of good websites for the children:

In English we are focusing on comprehension and creative writing. Also, we are busy continuing with our topic work on weather. We have a visitor coming in on Wednesday to talk to the children and to help them learn more about weather.

This week we will be rehearsing for our Christmas play. The children are doing very well learning their lines and the songs. Letters have gone out about what the children are expected to wear. If you did not not see the letter children who are in the chorus are expected to wear jeans and a checked shirt and other children who have main parts, the costumes will be provided by the school. We definitely have some budding actors! In Maths we will be looking at calculation and doing mental maths: to count in 2s, 5s and 10s, times tables, number bonds, quick mental addition and subtraction. In Literacy the children will be creating their own Christmas story using lots of descriptive and magical language!
We will also be doing lots of Christmas activities, so be prepared for lots of pretty and imaginative Christmassy things coming your way!
A busy yet exciting week ahead!
