Hello;
It has been quite a while since our last posts, but we resolve to make more time for this in the future!
This term, as you might know, our topic is space. We are looking at lots of exciting things such as the planets, why we have night and day and the space race. There are loads of great websites for children out there to look at when you are at home too! We will also be looking at planets and space for our art projects this term.
In Mr Coates’ maths set we have just finished looking at multiplication and long division and our brains are full to bursting with some great new skills! We have also signed the children up to ‘MyMaths’ a website where they will be given homework activities etc (letter to follow in book-bags)!
In literacy we have been following our space theme with some work on creation stories from other cultures, and writing about the theory that we (the children) believe in. We have had some great theories from giant asteroids colliding with the moon, to the Big Bang theory!
Our spellings this week are based on the /ng/ phoneme:
Group 1: hang, sung, sting, bring, wings, strong, singing, tongs, adding, grabbing.
Group 2: strong, string, bringing, length, strength, amazingly, angrily, assisting, communicating, longest.
Have fun!
Mr Coates and Miss Blake.

For the last couple of weeks we have been working hard on understanding fractions. We have been looking at fractions of shapes and amounts, fraction word problems and what fractions equal a whole.
Please remember your homework is due in this Friday (9th ) and should be addition revision.
Keep practicing your times tables also! Our multiplication facts are really improving. Keep up the hard work!

Year 4 are continuing to make their robots this week.
Please bring in anything you need to complete them. Last week we found we needed more boxes, tin foil and other bits and bobs!
Thank you!

Recently in maths we have been looking at 2D and 3D shapes and their properties. We have also been looking at how we can sort these shapes using what we know about them and Venn diagrams. This week we are moving onto looking at rounding numbers, written methods for addition and subtraction, doubling numbers and word problems.
So far this term, we have looked at the 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x and 10x tables. This week we will be working on our own personal ‘times table target’ to complete a maths test sheet on one of these by the end of the week. Your child should know which times table they are working on.
More homework will be handed out this Friday, which will be due in after half term (Friday 4th Nov)
Keep up the hard work!

On Friday year 4 will be carrying out an investigation into insulators. For this investigation we would really like the children to bring in a sleeping bag. If you have one at home that you would be happy for us to use, please bring it to school with you on Friday!
Please don’t worry if you don’t have one though, the children will be working in groups.

Hello Year 4!
This week in our maths set we are focusing on adding and subtracting two digit numbers, and the 5x table as our ‘mental maths’. In class we have also been learning how to multiply and divide whole numbers by 10 and 100. We will be continuing with this for the rest of the week. Any practice you can do at home would be fab! I have put some maths games on our ‘learning links’ that you might like to use.
Every Friday we will be doing our timed times table test. So again, any practice at home would be really helpful!
Keep up the hard work!
Miss Blake
