Growing up with the Internet

Last week saw the publication of a notable House of Lords report – Growing up with the Internet.

The report’s basic recommendation is that the Internet is used by children, but was not ‘designed’ for them, so schools should consider incorporating ‘Internet training’ into lessons.

As a school we will be taking a lead in this process – we take the view that the internet is a wonderful resource but that children do need support in using it – especially in the years before they move on to secondary school.  Initial trials are going well – our picture shows Year Five children using a simulated version of Twitter – a safe, secure imitation which enables us to teach children about ‘friends’ and ‘followers’, privacy settings, appropriate content, and the importance of clear and positive communications.

Watch this space for (simulated) Facebook and Instagram activities too!
