Pastoral Care

Pastoral care in a school to makes sure the physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing of pupils is cared for. Our commitment to pastoral care feeds into everything we do to ensure our pupils have the best chance at success here at SCPS.

We have a Pastoral Team led by Mr Coates (our SENCo) comprising Mrs Silk, Mrs Pepper (am) and Mrs Duncan (pm).

Each week we aim to explore a topic of pastoral care for parents.

Advice for managing behaviour at home.

My Family Coach is a free website written by behaviour experts which can support you through the tough times, inspire you with new ideas, and share practical tips to make parenting that little bit easier. It complements the Team Teach techniques used in our school. The website gives tips for parents/carers including:

  • Responding in a calm way.
  • Giving space, or taking a child away from a difficult situation to calm down, if it’s safe to do so.
  • Speaking more slowly, using fewer words (which gives them verbal space to self-regulate)
  • Giving them enough time to feel back in control of their emotions – and as we know, it can take much longer than we might expect!

There are also some free parent classes available through the My Family Coach website.
