Sustainability & Eco Council
At Sonning Common Primary School, we believe that every child has the power to make a difference. Our Sustainability and Eco Council is at the heart of this mission. Led by our Sustainability Lead, Miss Snowden, the council brings together enthusiastic pupils who care deeply about the environment and want to help shape a greener future for our school and community.
What We Do
The Eco Council gives children a meaningful platform to:
- Discuss environmental issues that matter to them
- Share ideas on how we can make our school more sustainable
- Lead eco‑friendly initiatives across the school
- Inspire others to take positive action against climate change
Through regular meetings, hands‑on projects, and whole‑school campaigns, our Eco Council members learn how small changes can create a big impact.
Our Achievements
We are incredibly proud of the progress our school has made on its sustainability journey. Recently, we have been awarded:
- Plastic Free Schools Award
A recognition of our commitment to reducing single‑use plastics and encouraging long‑lasting, environmentally responsible habits.
- Greener Henley Gold Award
A celebration of our efforts to protect the environment, promote biodiversity, and empower pupils to take climate action.
These awards reflect the dedication of our pupils, staff, and wider community. Together, we are building a school culture where sustainability is not just a topic, it’s embedded in everything we do!
Looking Ahead
Our Eco Council continues to explore new ways to reduce our environmental impact, from energy-saving initiatives to wildlife-friendly projects. We are excited to keep learning, growing, and leading the way toward a more sustainable future.
