Dear Parents and Carers,
This week your children have been up to:
Literacy: We finished the drafting and editing of our reports on the eruption in Pompeii before writing them up into a newspaper-style format. Next week we will study a new topic, focusing on a character known as ‘The Dreamgiver’.
Maths: We spent the week practising rounding – this time to the nearest 100 and 1,000 – before we move on to adding and subtracting with 4-digit numbers next week.
Spelling: This week’s focus was on the prefix ‘sub’. Examples included ‘subject’, ‘submarine’ and ‘subtitle’.
Science: We classified more invertebrates using more scientific terms, such as ‘arthropod’, ‘annelid’ and ‘echinoderm’.
Art: The children designed their Christmas cards, which will be ready for you to order in due course.
PE: In both rugby and hockey we focused on some small attack versus defence activities, mainly using the concept of an attacking overload, which is where there are a higher number of attackers than defenders.
Topic: The children learnt about what causes a tsunami and the devastating effects these have.
RE: We learnt about World Religion Day and the purpose this serves for many followers of different religions.
Computing: Those who were not at Forest Camp made good progress with their Scratch games.
PSHE: We spoke about the many different ways in which we can support ourselves and others.
Ufton Court:
This week you will have received an email about the initial payments required for our trip to Ufton Court in April. We hope everything was clear – please come and ask if you have any questions.
Sonning Common 10k:
The annual 10k event will be held in the village this Sunday (4th October). Please see the school newsletter for more details.
Have a super weekend,
The Y4 Team
