Free School Meals

At Sonning Common Primary School we want to make sure that we are providing your child with the best education and support we can.  Healthy school food has obvious health benefits and can help pupils establish healthy habits for life.  Healthy school food can also help to improve pupils’ readiness to learn.

Even if your child is in KS1 and getting a school already, or prefers to have a packed lunch, we encourage you to apply for free school meals because this enables us to claim Pupil Premium money (£1455 a year) to provide support like extra tuition, educational trips, music lessons or after school activities.

To check if your child is eligible, we need information about you and your child. We would like to reassure you that the process will be conducted discreetly and in confidence.

To apply just fill in the Free school meals (and pupil premium funding) application form.

Your child is eligible for free school meals if you’re in receipt of one of the following benefits:

  • Universal Credit (provided you have an annual net earned income of no more than £7,400)
  • Income Support
  • Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
  • Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
  • Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
  • The guaranteed element of Pension Credit
  • Child Tax Credit (provided you’re not also entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual gross income of no more than £16,190)
  • Working Tax Credit run-on – paid for four weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit
