County Cricket Finals

Wednesday saw our Y5/6 cricket team compete against 20 other teams in the Oxfordshire Kwik Cricket Finals.

The event was held at an extremely hot Kidlington Cricket Club. Many teams had qualified through several rounds to reach the finals day, so were clearly amongst the best in the County.

Our team were absolutely brilliant on the day!

Especially considering that several of our more experienced cricketers were otherwise engaged at Gillotts, some of the performances were remarkable.

Opening the batting, Henry and Charlie scored bucketloads of runs, and both bowled with great accuracy. Tommy and Ernie took regular wickets and bowled with pace and aggression. In the middle order, the inexperienced trio of Daniel, Josh and Ben made important contributions, and were vital in the field. Louie’s batting improved in every game, and Robin played some excellent cricket (including a six) with a big smile on his face. Nathan’s canny leg spin completed the lineup, and Charlie as usual led the team with great tact and style.

How did we do? We won two out of our three group games and qualified for the semi-finals. We lost narrowly to the eventual winners, but picked up third place with a comprehensive victory in the final game.

Over the whole day we witnessed excellent performances by a wonderfully sporting group of players. We are all very proud of them, and both they and their coaching staff represented their school admirably, somewhat in contrast to several of the opposing teams.

Many thanks to Mrs Allnutt, Mrs Cook and Mrs Handley for lifts and support.
