KS2 Performance Showcase!

Last Thursday was the annual SCPS Performance Evening, where we aim to showcase the talents of our KS2 children. Every child prepares a piece to perform, and over term 4, teachers and children help to decide which should go forward to the annual showcase evening. Children who regularly attend the Tuesday evening Performers’ Club are also invited to show their talents, as is the Year Six Jazz Band.

This year, the theme for the writing (and associated performances) was ‘Dreams’, and the contributions ranged from poems, through stories and raps, to letters of complaint. The Jazz Band were on top form, playing some quiet jazz (‘Mercy, Mercy, Mercy’, ‘Summertime’ and ‘Sunny’) during the interval, and ‘Price Tag’, ‘The Impression that I get’, ‘Feeling Good’ and ‘Rescue Me’ later on.

Last night Stefan K and Harry B (both Year Six) were presented with well-deserved special awards for the inherent drama in their performances (‘Scam Central’ and ‘Teleshopping at 6’ respectively). The lower KS2 award was won by Aiden W and Alfie B for their fantastic rap-style poem ‘Listen to your Dreams’. The Upper KS2 award was shared by Freddie H for his uncanny impression of the Prime Minister in ‘Brexit Catastrophe’ and Alice M for her wonderfully dramatic ‘Midsummer Night’s Nightmare’. All of those who took part should be congratulated for their talent, courage and enthusiasm.

Many thanks to Dr Loader for all the organisation, to the teachers and parents for helping to prepare the children, to Henry, Devon and Joe for support, to the PTA for refreshments, and to Mrs Tyldesley, Mrs Fox and Mr Hirst for judging.
