World Book Day (week!)

Next week we are celebrating World Book Day across the whole week to focus on how important reading is in our school. The theme for World Book Day this year is ‘You Are a Reader’. We want our children to know that whether they read a recipe, a football annual, a Top Trump card or a message on a phone, they are readers! We have already got some new books ready for classes to enjoy which include books about Minecraft, famous people, Star Wars and quizzes. These mixed boxes of books will be making their way around school in the weeks to come, along with poetry, plays and graphic novels in the hope that everyone finds something they enjoy.

Every day, teachers will be swapping classes to read one of their favourite stories, and we also have these activities planned:
Monday 27th February: Oxford Story Museum story-telling workshop

Tuesday 28th February & Wednesday 1st March: Book shop will be open for children to use the voucher provided by the World Book Day organisation. There will be some books for £1 or the children can choose from a larger range of books and use their voucher as part-payment for books over £3. Please ensure that if you send money into school for your child to go to Book Shop, it is in a named envelope. Children can also opt to bring their vouchers home to use in a high-street bookshop.

Friday 3rd March: we would like the children to come into school dressed up as a character from a book. We encourage them to use clothes or costumes that they already have at home, there is no expectation to buy any new clothes. Please could your child bring in the book to represent the character that they have dressed as.

If possible, it would be great if families could make a donation in exchange for coming to school dressed up. We suggest £1 to £2 per child but there is no pressure – the money is much less important than the children having fun and enjoying the week but any money donated will go towards buying KS1 new Phonics books.
