Sunflower Growing Competition

Dear Parents/Carers,

As part of our Interhouse and STEM Week activities this year, we have planned a growing and photography competition for Term 4 and 5.

Our STEM focus this year is Growth and we want to continue this learning outside the classroom and into the wider world. Therefore, your children will be coming home this week with some sunflower seeds, which we hope that they will plant in their garden or a garden of a relative/friend. We would then like your children to care for their seeds, ensuring they are getting enough sunlight and water.

If your child wishes to take part in the competition, they can then take a photograph of their sunflowers progress anytime between Tuesday 3rd May 2022 and Tuesday 24th May 2022 and upload their photo along with their caption into SCPS Photo Competition. The competition deadline is Tuesday 24th May 2022, entries must be labelled with their name, class and house please. There is no limit to the number of entries per child, enter as many times as you like, if it is a different photo of the flowers progress.

Here are the rules:

  • The photo must have a caption – the funnier and wittier the better!
  • Even if the growing has not been successful, still take a photo and write a humorous caption
  • Entries must be labelled with your child’s name, class, and house.

The results will be announced during our morning assembly on Friday 27th May 2022 and, as it is an interhouse competition, prizes will be awarded in the form of team points. The winning entries in KS1 and KS2 will be judged on:

  • Best growing, photo and caption: 20 team points
  • Best growing: 10 team points
  • Best photo: 10 team points
  • Best caption: 10 team points

All entries will receive 5 team points for their efforts.

Before the winners are announced in assembly, there will be a montage of all entries played on the screen so all children’s work can be recognised and admired.

Thank you for your continued support,

Miss Wood & The STEM Team
