Sonning Common Primary School

Space to learn, grow and be inspired

Week beginning 5th October

Hello everyone!

Year 2 have had a lovely week! We have enjoyed writing autumn descriptions and thinking carefully about the words we can use to bring our writing to life.

In maths, we have started looking at addition and subtraction, with a focus on number bonds to 10.

In science, we have been learning about what plants need to survive and grow.

We also had lots of fun taking part in a drama workshop on Thursday!

This week…

We are continuing our descriptive writing by listening to a sensory story. We will use our senses to help us think of interesting adjectives and descriptive language.

In maths, we will be exploring fact families and number bonds to 100.

In topic, we will be making our own houses inspired by those from the Great Fire of London in 1666. Please could your child bring in a shoe box or cereal box for us to use? These will be used to create our houses, so please send them in if you have one available.

Reminders

We have noticed that lots of small toys are being brought into school from home. Please could these be kept at home, as they can easily get lost or broken in school. Thank you for your support with this!

PE – Outdoor PE is on Mondays and indoor PE is on Wednesdays when we are not swimming. Please wear your PE kit on swimming days, as this makes it easier for children to get changed.

Swimming – Swimming will take place every other week, rotating with Year 1.

Year 2 will be swimming on:

  • 7.10.26
  • 21.10.26

Forest Camp – Forest Camp takes place every other Tuesday. You should have been sent a list telling you whether your child is an Owl or a Hedgehog.

  • 6.10.26 – Owls
  • 13.10.26 – Hedgehogs
  • 20.10.26 – Owls

Have a lovely week!
