Sonning Common Primary School

Space to learn, grow and be inspired

Week beginning 21st of September

Hello Year 2!

We have had a fun week writing stories about a Colour Monster and learning about similes.

In Maths, we have continued our work on place value, working on number lines going up in 10s and 1s to 100.

In Topic, we enjoyed learning about how the Great Fire of London started and how it spread.

In PSHE, we have been thinking about the benefits exercise has on our bodies.

This Week

We are going to be focusing on writing descriptions, using autumn pictures to imaginatively explain what we can see.

In Maths, we are continuing our work on place value, ordering numbers and counting in 2s, 3s, 5s and 10s.

In Art, we are exploring how to describe and record texture in art.

Reminders

Show and Tell – Show and Tell will now take place on Fridays instead of Tuesdays. Children can bring in something they have made or an achievement they are proud of to share with the class. Please do not bring toys in for Show and Tell.

We have also noticed that lots of small toys are being brought into school from home. Please could these be kept at home, as they can easily go missing or get broken in school. Thank you for your support with this!

Times Tables Rock Stars (TTRS) – A big well done to all the children who have had a go on TTRS!  You have earned team points for your efforts. TTRS will be set again this week, so please encourage your child to have another go!

Spelling shed has also been set for your children to have a go. I have set Year 1 words to start with for extra practice and until we start our spelling properly in a few weeks.

PE – Outdoor PE is on Mondays and indoor PE is on Wednesdays when we are not swimming. Please wear your PE kit for swimming as it is easier to change into.

Swimming – Swimming will take place every other week, rotating with Year 1.

Year 2 will be swimming on:

  • 23.9.26
  • 7.10.26
  • 21.10.26

Forest Camp – Forest Camp is every other Tuesday. You should have been sent a list telling you whether your child is an Owl or a Hedgehog.

  • 22.9.26 – Owls
  • 29.9.26 – Hedgehogs
  • 6.10.26 – Owls
  • 13.10.26 – Hedgehogs
  • 20.10.26 – Owls

Have a lovely week!
