Hello, and welcome to another weekly Year 6 update. It’s difficult to believe that as I write this (Friday afternoon), exactly one week ago we were on our way back from Woodlands. We hope that your children came home full of excitement and stories from the trip. They acquitted themselves extremely well, impressing everyone – teachers and instructors alike – with their behaviour, good humour and positive attitude. They were, once again, a credit to the school.
Back to the grind this week, though! We’ve been up to the following:
- In literacy, we’ve been learning about the features of persuasive writing, ahead of putting together a persuasive leaflet for Woodlands.
- In maths, we’ve either been looking at place value or prime factors.
- In history, we spend some time learning about some of the famous passengers who were on board the Titanic. Next week, we’ll be thinking about who was responsible for the tragedy.
- In RE, we were learning about the Sikh creation story.
- In music, we discussed how lyrics can change and define the meaning of a song.
Spellings
This week’s words all had the suffix -al. They were: antisocial, artificial, beneficial, crucial, facial, official, racial, social, special and superficial.
Morning helpers
You should have received an email earlier in the week about your children being morning helpers. With such an unprecedented number of them volunteering for the job, we have had to split the cohort into two groups. The main reason for this is that we know that four morning helpers in a classroom is not actually, in some cases, hugely helpful! Half of the group will perform the job up until the end of Term 3, and the other half will then take over and continue until the end of the year.
There are two main things for your children to remember:
- Morning helpers must be in at 8.30 every morning.
- They are there to be helpful. If the standards we expect are not met, the privilege will be lost.
The following children should come to school at 8.30 on Monday morning and go to the classroom they have been assigned to:
| Kites | Bell, Beau |
| 1 | Nanaka, Jessica |
| 2 | Kit, Jack S |
| 3 | Vivienne, Georgie |
| 4KG | Albie, Zac W |
| 4TA | Noah, Leo |
| 5SS | Quinn, Jacob |
| 5ES | India, Poppy |
| 6RB | Robin, Mia, Bea |
| 6RF | Tilly H, Elodie |
We hope you have a lovely weekend, and we will see your children bright and early on Monday morning.
