Sonning Common Primary School

Space to learn, grow and be inspired

Week Beginning 2nd November

Welcome to term 2!  Now that we are facing more normal autumnal weather, it is really helpful if the children can do things like zip up their coats and change shoes independently. They will also need a changes of clothes with them, especially:

  • wellies
  • several changes of socks, plus at least a spare top
  • a coat which is warm and waterproof
  • some waterproof trousers
  • Hats and gloves as appropriate

This term our main focus will be a history topic on toys (our workshop on toys in the past is next Tuesday and we still need volunteers if you are available!) The children will be talking about their favourite toys and asking you and their grandparents about the toys you played with. It’s a great opportunity to share your childhood experiences so that your child can see how things have changed.

We are starting maths this term with a block of work on addition and subtraction. Here is a link to one of our ‘Maths made clear’ videos that talks about the different ways that children are taught addition in school:Maths made clear – addition

This week we will also be talking about the Gunpowder Plot, firework safety, and making some firework-inspired art.

The Fire and Water teams will be visiting Forest Camp on Monday afternoon and we have swimming on Wednesday. PE is on Friday as usual and we will be indoors doing some firework-related dance.

Thanks,

The Year 1 Team
