Space to learn, grow and be inspired

Year 4 2026-27: Term 1 Week 7

Dear Parents and Carers,

This week we have been learning about:

Literacy: This week we moved on to look at a new character – ‘The Wishgranter’. We watched a video of his short story and then created a story map of the main events of the tale before creating a word bank describing the various feelings and events. Next, we will create an alternative ending for the story before moving on to some SPaG work, first focusing on apostrophes and determiners.

Maths: More practise of the column methods this week – mainly subtraction before progressing onto the concept of borrowing and exchanging.

Spelling: We looked at a variety of tricky words this week. They were: appear, believe, calendar, grammar, increase, interest, opposite, straight, strength and women.

Guided Reading: We read the story of Lord Krishna and Sudama before answering questions about the text using our inference and retrieval skills.

Music: We used a range of glockenspiels and xylophones to develop our tunes from last week.

Science: We focused on environmental changes and how these can affect endangered animals.

Art: The children learned about composition and used some materials to make their own collage.

PE: In both rugby and hockey we played some small sided matches, making sure that we played a certain number of passes before we could score and that we used the skills we have learnt from previous lessons.

Topic: We learnt about the different types of floods and the amount of damage each can cause.

RE: We began a new unit on Christianity and looked at some pictures of Jesus.

PSHE: The children discussed the various features of a growth mindset, how they have used these skills before and how they could use them going forward.

Computing: We spent this week’s lesson putting the finishing touches to our own Scratch games.

School Photos:

These took place on Tuesday and your child has been given a card informing you of how to order your photos. Hopefully the cards found their way home – please let us know if you have not received yours.

Enjoy your weekend,

The Y4 Team
