Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome to a new year at SCPS. We hope you have all had a fantastic and restful summer break.
Although we have only been back at school for two days, we have already covered the following:
Literacy: The classes created a mind map about their summer holidays and turned these memories into a short recount. Next week, we move onto our first text of the year – Escape From Pompeii by Christina Balit.
Maths: The children have begun to look at place value and learnt about representing numbers up to 1,000. We will do more work on this next week.
PE: Our first sport of the year is hockey. We revisited the correct way to hold and control a hockey stick and learnt about the importance of passing and moving in team sports.
RE: We discussed the various religions across the world and talked about why it is important to have different opinions.
Computing: We learnt about variables and how we can use these to alter the workings of a game on Scratch.
PSHE: The children learnt about a balanced diet and suggested why certain foods would (or would not) be included.
PE Days:
In Year 4, PE will be during the afternoons on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Please remember to send your child in full PE kit and trainers on these days.
Homework:
We will send out the usual, reading, TTRS and Spelling Shed homework for the first time next Thursday (10th September).
Year 4 Curriculum Sharing:
This will take place at 5.45pm on Monday 7th September and is online only. The link will be sent out to you in due course.
Have a great weekend!
The Year 4 Team.
