Sonning Common Primary School

Space to learn, grow and be inspired

Term 1 – Week 5

Dear Parents,

Our highlight this week has been our Geography lesson on Thursday! The children explored Longitude and Lattitude by using oranges as their model Earth. The children enjoyed using whiteboard pens to draw on their oranges, to mark the north and south pole, the equator and the lines of longitude and lattitude – check out our school instagram to see some photos of the children in action!

English

This week in English we have continued to read Malamander, and we are excitingly close to the end of the book! The children have enjoyed creating their own sibling for one of the main characters: Violet Parma On Thursday the children wrote some awesome newspaper reports about Violet’s missing sibling!

Maths

In maths the children have been busy measuring and exploring area and perimeter. We have had fun recapping our ruler skills, and experimenting with drawing our own shapes, as well as measuring shapes others have created too!

Science

In science, we looked at reading data and making bar charts. The children enjoyed investigating the gestation periods of different animals and comparing these using bar charts.

Upcoming week

This week we are going to be reading an exciting picture book. In science we are going to look at changes in old age, and in topic we are going to look at climate zones!
