On Wednesday our Year 3, Year 5/6 ‘B’ and Year 5/6 ‘A’ team travelled to the wonderful setting of Tilsley Park in Abingdon for the County Final of the outdoor athletics season.

After the usual sprinting, distance running, vortex throwing and long jumping events had been completed, we eagerly awaited the final results.

Our Year 3 team, competing in the mixed Year 3/4 event, finished in 9th place – a fantastic achievement considering they were taking on lots of children who were bigger and older than themselves. They had previously performed brilliantly to win the South Oxfordshire Final, and were rightly proud to finish 9th in the whole county.

Our Year 5/6 ‘B’ team also delivered many solid performances across each of their events, finishing in 8th place overall and above the ‘A’ teams of many other schools across the county.

Our Year 5/6 ‘A’ team put in an excellent performance and we were delighted to learn that, for the second year in a row, we had finished in 1st place and can continue to say that we are the County Champions of outdoor athletics!

Now we have reached the end of the athletics season, it is fair to say that this has been another tremendous year of sport for SCPS. Our Year 3 team have excelled themselves, our Year 5/6 ‘B’ team pushed our ‘A’ team and that of other schools all the way, and some of our Year 5/6 ‘A’ team can say they were County Champions as Year 5 and as Year 6 children!

We would like to say a massive thank you to all of the children who competed in the events, each of those who committed to attending the athletics club every week and to the parents and staff who made this happen.

Year 3: Tristan B-M, Billy W, Brody D, Rory W, Maxime P, Bella N, Grace V, Immie L-O, Lana H and Evie C.

Year 5/6 ‘B’: Leo B, Sam M, Jacob N, Noah D, Max O, Lili F, Ella Y, Robin B-M, Tilly H and Claudia V.

Year 5/6 ‘A’: Charlie C, Xander O’B-W, Ben N, Adomas B, Kit G, Saule B, Isabella DS, Eliza G, Issy C and Freya H.
