We have had another great week in Kites. Our focus has been mark making and so we have been bark rubbing, drawing round each other and adding features, creating simple cartoon characters, drawing in shaving foam, corn flour & water and sand and have also been chalking all over the Kites garden! This theme will continue next week.
If you are looking for something to do at the weekend, why not try this scavenger hunt Scavenger hunt . When your child finds one of the items, they can tick it. If there is more than one, they could try writing the number of items they found. This is a good way to encourage mark making without your child realising that they are doing it!
We have continued with Phonics, learning the sounds t, i, n and p. The video below provides a demonstration of how to pronounce each sound. If you get a chance, it would be useful to watch so that you can support your child with their reading.
In Maths, we have looked at the numbers 5, 6, 7 and 8. Don’t forget that your child has a login for ‘Ten Town’ on the front of their reading record so that they can access all of the resources at home which will help to consolidate their learning.
Now that the children have been in school for several weeks, we are trying to encourage them to be more independent and self-sufficient. For the last two, weeks the children have had PE and have been getting dressed into their PE kit for this. It may sound strange but, if your child comes home with their trousers on inside out or their tshirt on back to front, it is a good sign as it has meant that they have managed to dress independently! We are also asking that children now walk into the classroom by themselves too, with parents saying goodbye at the Kites gate. We understand that this can be difficult but it is yet another way of building their independence. Teaching your child how to peel a banana or an orange is also a great way to help them become more self-sufficient. They will feel so proud of themselves at snack time when they are able to prepare their snack without needing to ask for help.
Thank you again for your ongoing support. Have a lovely weekend!
