Space to learn, grow and be inspired

The week in Year 3…

Hello everyone! Welcome to another week in Year 3! It’s a wet and windy change to the weather today, with the children getting out at lunchtime in their wellies for the first properly soggy OPAL session of the year. I was away last week having a short “break” in the Brecon Beacons with Year 6, so a big thank you to Mrs Casserley and Mrs Duncan for filling in for me!

We have recently started looking at the book Matilda by Roald Dahl in literacy sessions, reading it together and completing comprehension activities to go alog with it. We have really enjoyed this book and have nearly finished it already! In the next few days we will be turning into authors and writing our own stories based on our book Ten-Word Tiny Tales. We (hopefully) will finish this early next week and are planning on moving on to information texts. Informative? I think so! Spelling will be looking at words that end with ‘ure’. It will include words like; treasure, measure, unsure, furniture and closure.

Maths has moved on to addition and subtraction, focusing on how we can use number bonds to answer more complex questions. We will also be finishing our unit on perimeter.

We are planning on continuing learning about the rainforest, comparing it with forests in the UK, in computing we have been looking at Scratch (computer programming software, not a skin problem) and have been writing our own computer programmes remembering that, on their own, computers are just not that bright and we need to tell them exactly what to do! (by the way, when AI takes over I will be denying I ever said that sentence).

Have a great week everyone! Until next time…

Mr Coates and Mr Witcomb.
