Hello everyone! Welcome to another week of year 3!
In literacy this week, we have started by doing loads of brilliant reading! As is also the case with books on gravity, we just can’t put them down at the moment. We have worked on retrieval practice again, looking through texts and finding information that lets us answer questions. We have also looked at synonyms for different words and were discussing different types of texts (diary entries, newspapers, stories, non-fiction and fiction texts, for example). Later on this week, we will be continuing with the work on Ten-Word Tiny Tales, moving on to writing our own stories that carry on from where the 10-word tales finish. The tale that we are all continuing is one of the first in the book:
“We watch the teacher lead the children through the portal.”
We have been thinking about who the teacher is, what they are doing, where the portal goes to, is it a bad thing? And so on…
Spelling this week will focus on words where ‘y’ makes an /i/ sound (for example Egypt, gym, lyrics and mystery).
In maths, this coming week, like a Christmas present full of sums, Mr Witcomb is planning on wrapping up number and place value and Mr Coates will be edging around the subject of perimeter. Please continue the brilliant times tables practice on TTRS, it really will help!! Promise!
Topic will continue with our work on rainforests, looking at what lives in rainforests around the world.
That’s about all for this week! Take care!
Mr Coates and Mr Witcomb.
