Space to learn, grow and be inspired

Term 1 Week 6 update

Hello, and welcome to your weekly Year 6 update. For this week’s Star Of The Week, we were asked to look for those children who have put maximum effort into their work (linked to our ‘Doing Your Best’ school value). Both Mrs Fox and Mr Burrows found that incredibly tricky, as there are so many of your children who fill that perfectly!

This week, your children have been up to the following:

  • In literacy, we have started putting together our persuasive leaflets for Woodlands. We’ll finish them next week, and we plan to send the best ones to the Woodlands instructors to show our appreciation for their efforts.
  • In maths, we’re all on board the four operations train, looking at column and addition and subtraction, square and cube numbers, long multiplication and more!
  • In history, we looked for evidence proving who was to blame for the Titanic’s sinking. Next week, we’ll be holding a debate to settle the argument once and for all!
  • In art, we learned about one-point perspective.
  • In RE, we have been finishing off our own creation stories.

Other Year 6 news

On Friday afternoon, the children met their Year 1 buddies for the first time. They had a lovely time using some of the OPaL equipment together. We will continue to do this on Friday afternoons every fortnight.

Spelling words

This week’s words were another group that all had the suffix -al. They were: confidential, essential, influential, martial, partial, potential, sequential, spatial, substantial and torrential.

OPaL lunchtimes

As the weather gets increasingly inclement, this is a reminder that children who do not have spare shoes to change into for lunchtimes will not be able to go onto the field and therefore will miss out on the new OPaL equipment. There is space for wellies/old trainers to stay at school, so please try to provide them for your children.

PE

A quick reminder that PE is on Wednesday and Thursday, and they are both outside. The weather will soon start getting chillier, so please make sure your children are well equipped.

We hope you have a lovely weekend, and we will see your children bright and early on Monday morning.
