Sonning Common Primary School

Space to learn, grow and be inspired

Term 6 Week 6

It’s been a fun filled week for year 4…

On Tuesday we had a whole day of DT, making pop up books of A Midsummer Night’s Dream. The children planned out which techniques they wanted to use for each page and the characters they wanted to include. The mocked up their designs on scrap paper before carefully recreating their designs with card. The results were amazing!

Thursday was another special event day to celebrate Sustainability Day 2026, while some were off to Shiplake College to perform as a choir. The choir had a wonderful day singing with 3 other schools, they learnt some new songs to sing with the other schools as well as performing on their own. Thank you to the staff that made it such a good event. Back at school, we discussed what sustainability means and how we can be more energy efficient. Each year group had a different focus, for year 4 it was water. We made water cycle models using plastic bags and then had a competition for designing a water transportation system with limited supplies. Each team presented their ideas and everyone voted for the design they thought would be the most successful. The winning team got to make their design and test it out. It sprung a few leaks, but was reasonably successful.

Friday’s mini fair was a great success! The children really enjoyed spending their tokens. Among other things, they could buy ice lollies, try to score a penalty or win a cuddly toy. This was followed by a spectacular water fight! Mrs Hogan and Mrs Marrison were not left out and return to class suitably drenched. Thank you to all who supplied water guns, it made for a very memorable morning.

Next week is the last week of the term, we will finish at 1:15 on Friday. Please send a carrier bag in next week for the children to bring home all of their books or make sure that their school bag is big/strong enough.
