Sonning Common Primary School

Space to learn, grow and be inspired

Term 5 Week 5

This week, the children have been enjoying retelling the story of Beowulf and Grendel

In maths, year 4 continue to apply their prior knowledge to new learning. Next week, we will begin our final preparations for the MTC check which is taking place after half term. This will involve the children completing soundchecks as well as some targeted times tables practice. If your children are less confident with a particular times table, please help them to practice. There are lots of fun songs on YouTube that can help them. Here are links to some of the popular ones: 4’s, 6’s, 7’s, 8’s, 12’s.

Art became a lot less messy this week! Instead of sculpting with soap, the children turned their hands to sculpting with wire. It was a challenge to bend and twist the delicate wire into place, but the children showed great perseverance and produced a beautiful butterfly and a pretty flower.

Next week, we will have conversations with the children about their changing bodies in line with government guidelines. The children will be encouraged to ask questions, they will be given the opportunity to do this anonymously.

The children were given a walk to school challenge this week, ready for next week. Children are encouraged to cycle, scoot or walk. Stickers will be awarded each day for not using the car. If the use of a car is necessary due to distance, then perhaps the car can be parked a few streets away and then walk the final stage of the journey.

Don’t forget to return all medical forms for Ufton Court by the end of term.

Important dates: End of term – Friday 22nd May (3:20 finish), Ufton Court – 17th-19th June.
