What a week! Year 4 had an absolute blast with STEM week. Earlier in the week we looked at busting some classic science stereotypes, we then had a visit from some Johnson Matthey scientists who spoke to us about how our lungs work and we got the opportunity to work in groups to build a lung model using some empty water bottles and balloons. On Thursday, we used our research skills to look up facts about a chosen scientist to create some amazing fact files (Albert Einstein was popular!) and then on Friday we had a special assembly demonstration by Johnson Matthey who changed the colour of titanium using electicity! Year 4 then had a lot of fun investigating which paper plane design would fly furthest. We spoke a lot about how we can make a test fair (conditions kept the same, more than one throw, etc.) before we set to making some paper planes. Some of the designs were tricky, but year 4 rose to the challenge. They enjoyed testing their aircraft: measuring and recording their results.
In other areas, work still continues in maths to apply our multiplication and division skills to fractions and area and we practiced our reading comprehension skills in literacy.
Next week: 4RF/CH swimming. Friday 20th Red Nose Day – children can wear one item of red. Donation buckets will be on the gates, don’t worry if you don’t have any cash floating around as a QR code will be available.
If your children want to get involved in the baking competition for RND, entries need to be photographed and sent in for judging.
