Sonning Common Primary School

Space to learn, grow and be inspired

Term 1 – Week 4

What have we been up to?

We have been having a great time preparing for this Friday’s big write. Our lessons have been all about stretching  our simple sentences to include more creative writing and we have loved using all our senses to create a vivid story setting. We have been so impressed by the inventiveness of the children and can’t wait to see what they produce on Friday.

In Science we have built on our invertebrate identification and have been creating classification keys of our own to split animals into different groups. There were some great ideas about claws, feathers, eggs, gills, antenna etc, they are really starting to use their knowledge well.

Mrs Ash’s class has started recorder lessons with Mr Marples which has been amazing fun! They have learnt 3 new notes and were even able to show off a short tune, much to the amazement of their teachers. Mr Witcomb’s class will have their lessons next term and have been learning about rhythms in a new song in the meantime.

We have been working on more advanced game creation in Scratch and have been making use of the variables function to create, ask and reward multiplication questions. They are really getting quite advanced and their scratch knowledge is increasingly amazingly. We fully expect to see some google employees in the coming years!

With the Year 6’s away on their residential trip, some children’s minds have turned to our own trip in June. There have been quite a few questions about Ufton Court but as it is so far away please do let your kids know there is nothing they need to do or prepare just yet!
