Sonning Common Primary School

Space to learn, grow and be inspired

Term 1 – Week 3

What have we been up to?

This past week has been all about the theatrics! The children have worked incredibly hard to learn portions of our poem ‘The Bogeys and the Trolls Next Door’ by Kaye Umansky and perform them to the year group with lots of actions. There have been treks through the smelly bog, dogs biting legs and lots of scary trolls! Everyone has had a brilliant time and we have enjoyed learning to recite poetry hugely.

In maths we are continuing with place value with some classes focusing on flexible partitioning. In the coming weeks we will look at number lines, Roman numerals and rounding before moving on to addition and subtraction.

Topic is becoming a firm favourite and everyone has got involved in learning about volcanos and how pressure causes the eruptions. You may have heard about the classes squishing themselves into tiny spaces so they can burst out! We have also been on an invertebrate hunt and found lots of different organisms which we have drawn and sorted into the right classification groups. In PE, everyone loved watching Mr Witcomb show how to do a teddy bear roll, next week we’re sure we can make him cartwheel!

Notices

With the weather finally becoming more autumnal, please make sure that your child is coming to school with an appropriate rain coat. Spare are always a good idea to keep on pegs as well. Whilst we have not quite reached gloves, hats and scarves weather, it may well be round the corner. As a note, children should not bring umbrellas to school as they can get broken or cause accidents on the playground. If your child walks to school with an umbrella we would recommend it goes home, otherwise it will need to stay in their bag during the school day.
