Space to learn, grow and be inspired

Week commencing 4th March

In Maths next week, we will be looking at a new topic, Measurement. Our key vocabulary will be measure, centimetre, millimetre, length, height, millilitre, litre, liquid, kilogram, gram, weight, distance. We will be measuring in lots of different situations as well as estimating. Here is a link where you can find lots of videos and games for your child to play to help them to better understand the topic Measuring – KS1 Maths – BBC Bitesize

In Literacy, we will be describing settings. We will use adjectives (describing words) and similes (comparing something to something else e.g. She was as wise as an owl) to help build a clear picture. This website page should help to give a bit more information about how to create a great setting What is a setting? – BBC Bitesize

Wednesday is our medieval day. This should be a fun day, helping the children to gain a better understanding of the period. Costumes are encouraged to help the children to immerse themselves in the experience. Here are a few websites for easy costumes which will use things that you have around the house. If you are struggling to put something together, let us know and we will try our best to ensure that your child has something to wear.

The whole school will be celebrating World Book Day on Thursday. In the morning, we will be completing some ‘book-based’ activities and then, in the afternoon, we will be sharing books with our Year 5 pupils. Your child is invited to dress up as an adjective to celebrate the day. There are lots of ideas on Pinterest to inspire you. Try to get your child involved with choosing the adjective and then with creating their costume as it may help to introduce them to new words and expand their vocabulary.

Have a great week!
