Sonning Common Primary School

Space to learn, grow and be inspired

Week beginning 8th January

Happy New Year!

We hope you have had a lovely holiday and that all the children are looking forward to a new, exciting term in Year 2.

We have lots of new topics to explore such as Kings and Queens in history lessons, colour mixing activities in art and learning about our environment and climate change in science lessons. In computing we will be learning how to take digital photographs and edit them.

This week in literacy some children will be continuing their phonics lessons, others will be moving onto our Year 2 spelling programme which is a new challenge. Our class book this week is ” The Disgusting Sandwich,” by Gareth Edwards. Children will be thinking about how to write instructions to make an ordinary sandwich and then coming up with horrible ideas of their own!

In maths we will be consolidating some work on 2D and 3D shapes, especially looking at which 2D shapes make up the flat sides of the 3D ones and describing their properties. This is a fun shape game making different 2D shapes.https://apps.mathlearningcenter.org/geoboard/

Miss Stone’s class will be swimming this Tuesday. Mrs Skidmore and Mrs Hogan’s forest camp groups begin this Thursday.

Please ensure children have their reading books in school each day so we can hear reading and change books. Thank you!
