Term 4 Week 4 update

Hello, and welcome to another weekly Year 3 update. It’s been a special week in school, with everyone busy conducting scientific experiments as part of STEM week. You’ll learn a bit more about what Year 3 got up to below, but we’d love for you to ask your children about what they remember about it.

This week, your children have been up to the following:

  • As part of STEM week, we decided to answer the question ‘What time of day is our classroom the quietest?’. To answer that, we wrote some code for the school’s new Micro:bits (pocket-sized computers) so that they would display the sound level from their built-in microphones whenever its button was pressed. The children took readings every half an hour throughout the school day. Surprisingly enough, the main conclusion that the children drew was that the classroom was quietest when they weren’t it! (Even more surprisingly, some children seemed surprised by this!) Your children were brilliant scientists throughout, and we are very proud of them.
  • In maths, we have been looking at length and perimeter, or equivalent fractions.
  • In RE, we have continued to explore our topic of morals – how does religious guidance affect the moral decisions people make?
  • In art, we made our very own Stone Age cave walls in our sketchbooks, using rice, grains and PVA glue. It got a bit messy!
  • In science, we also learned about the different phases of the moon. Why do we see different parts of the moon throughout each month?

PE and swimming

Just a weekly reminder that Year 3 aren’t swimming this term, so please could your children come to school in PE kit on both Monday and Thursday.

Parent consultations

We look forward to speaking to you next week on Tuesday and Thursday evening. If you haven’t booked yet, the booking system will remain ‘live’ on MCAS until 7pm the day before each consultation.

We hope you have a lovely weekend, and we will see your children again on Monday morning.
