Term 4 Week 3 update

Hello, and welcome to another weekly Year 3 update! It’s been a bit of an exciting week, with Hill End happening on Tuesday and Wednesday, and then World Book Day on Thursday. The action keeps coming next week though, with STEM week and Red Nose Day on Friday!

This week, your children have been up to the following:

  • In literacy, we have been building up to writing our own mystery stories!
  • In maths, we have been working on perimeter or fractions.
  • In topic, we went to Hill End Outdoor Education Centre for a Stone Day-themed adventure day (see below).
  • In art, we channelled our inner Stone Age artist. What outdoor items (leaves, berries, mud) can we make a mark with, and can we colour paint using ground spices, like cinnamon?

Hill End

On Tuesday and Wednesday, Year 3 went to Hill End Outdoor Education Centre for a trip back to the Stone Age! We started off as Mesolithic (middle Stone Age, around 10,000BC) hunter-gatherers, working together to build shelters and using spears to hunt. Then, we fast-forwarded to the Neolithic Stone Age (new Stone Age, around 4,000BC), where we made flint axes, ground wheat into flour and baked dough on the fire. Finally, we were given a glimpse of the Bronze Age, where our instructor melted some tungsten on the fire and poured it into an axe head mould.

Your children were impeccably behaved and engaged in the day brilliantly. That is why everyone is Star of the Week this week!

PE and swimming

A quick reminder that there is no swimming this term, and so everyone should come to school in PE kit on Monday and Thursday.

Forest Camp

This week is the last for Year 3! Please make sure that if your child is due to come on Monday, they come to school in a long-sleeved top and full-length bottoms (regardless of the weather). They should come to school in their school shoes and bring trainers or wellies to change into. Our advice is not to wear clothes that are too expensive or difficult to clean (or school uniform, of course)!

Monday 11th March
