Sonning Common Primary School

Space to learn, grow and be inspired

Week beginning 15th June

Looking forward to some slightly sunnier weather this week!

The children did a great job learning a poem last week – it was called ‘Hatching’, which seemed appropriate, and they will have a chance to perform it in assembly on Tuesday. Speaking of which, hatching chick is obviously quite an uncertain business. Our first lot of eggs (6) may hatch around Sports Day and we have added a second batch (12 eggs) which will hatch a week later. On the one hand we really want them to hatch because it will be so exciting. On the other hand, in the unlikely event that they all hatch, that’s a lot of chicks! Keep everything crossed for us!

In literacy this week we will be working on how to use question marks and some revision of when to use capital letters. In maths we will be finishing off our work on positional language and moving on to time – beginning with language to do with time such as days of the week and months of the year. In geography we will be looking at aerial photos of the school and surrounding areas and in science we are continuing to learn about animal groups, this week focusing on mammals.

Forest Camp on Monday is for the Fire and Earth teams and there is no swimming on Wednesday.

Thanks,

The Year 1 Team
