Sonning Common Primary School

Space to learn, grow and be inspired

Week beginning 29th April

It’s hard to believe that it’s nearly May, let’s hope it warms up soon! Thank you for your support with the reading and spelling activities the children were really confident and seemed to enjoy showing what they knew. The next installment should have arrived home today.

Next week we are continuing our literacy work on Jack and the Beanstalk by working on story openings and using adjectives. We are also anxiously watching our bean seeds for signs of growth and will be learning about the difference between wild and garden plants. In geography, we will be looking at maps and aerial photos of the local area and playing games to practice the names of the different countries of the United Kingdom.

Maths will be the last week of our block of work about multiplication and division and we will be focusing on making equal groups and sharing. Here is a simple game for practice at home https://pbskids.org/curiousgeorge/busyday/dogs/.  There is also Hit the button which is good for practising doubling, which we have been working on this week.

Thank you to those of you who have sent in shoe boxes for our art project – and keep them coming! This week we have been wrapping objects with wool – the children have found cutting and attaching wool an enjoyable challenge. Next we will be moving on to plaiting and threading.

Miss Bartlett’s class will be swimming next Wednesday.
