Sonning Common Primary School

Space to learn, grow and be inspired

Week beginning 15th January

Welcome to a new term, we hope you all had a lovely Christmas!

This term we will begin working on joined up handwriting by teaching the children how to form each letter starting on the line. This website shows examples of how the letters are formed: https://teachhandwriting.co.uk/continuous-cursive-beginners-choice-4.html

We will also be using Spelling Shed to practise common spellings with online games, and your child’s login details should be sent home in their reading record books this week. Please let us know if you have any difficulties.

Maths this term moves on to learning about numbers to 20 and place value (the number of tens and ones in each number). In science we are continuing to learn about different materials (wood, metal, plastic etc) and will then move on to describing the properties of materials (rigid, flexible, rough, smooth etc). This will include a lot of new vocabulary, so any opportunities to practise at home will be really useful!

Our history topic is all about different kinds of transport and how they have changed and works well alongside our computing project of planning and building a rocket. It would be helpful if your child could bring in an empty plastic bottle (the kind that 2L fizzy drinks come in) to make the body of their rocket.

In art we will be mixing colours and in P.E. we are doing gymnastics. PHSCE is all about safety and RE is looking at creation stories.

Miss Bartlett’s class will be swimming this week.
