Sonning Common Primary School

Space to learn, grow and be inspired

Week beginning 6th November

Dear Parents/Carers,

We hope you had a lovely half term, and have enjoyed the celebrations during week 1 of term 2: Halloween and Bonfire Night.

On Monday we had a action packed day with our ‘History of Toys’ workshop. The children had the opportunity to explore lots of different toys from the past in our ‘Toys Museum’ then they had the opportunity to make lots of different toys from the past too. We hope they were able to share their creations with you at home. Thank you to all the parent helpers who came for the day!

Our ‘History of Toys’ day was a brilliant beginning to our toys history topic this term. We have begun to share the stories of ‘Old Bear’ in our class and this week we will be writing a description of one of the toys in the stories. If your child would like to bring in a PHOTOGRAPH of a toy from the past they know; maybe their parents or grandparents toys, it would be lovely for them to share it in show and tell.

Now the weather has turned a little more autumnal, last week we explored the seasonal changes within autumn. We have loved the conker collections, and have been using our findings in nature to help us with our counting and adding in maths. This week we are going to continue to focus on addition and see if we can nail our number bonds to 10!

We already seem to be acquiring a large number of sweatshirts and cardigans, so please make sure that your child’s sweatshirt/cardigan is clearly named so if they go missing they can easily be reunited with their owner! As the weather begins to turn a little colder, please ensure your children have warm enough clothing for forest camp, and please make sure it is all named!

On Wednesday Miss Snowden’s class will be swimming!
