Sonning Common Primary School

Space to learn, grow and be inspired

Week beginning 25th September

The children have been doing an amazing job adjusting to the new routines of year one! Thank you for your continued support with things like Forest Camp and PE kit and the naming of clothes.

This week we will be starting our longer phonics sessions on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday so the Read, Write, Inc books should be coming home on Wednesday for your child to share with you. In literacy we will be reading the ‘Supertato’ stories and describing the Evil Pea!

Maths continues the theme of place value but we will be working on counting back, as well as comparing numbers and using language such as more than, less than, fewer and equal to. It takes a while for children to use this language independently, especially in a sentence such as ‘I have 3 more than you’, so any practice at home will be useful.

In DT we will be making fruit kebabs for a friend (photos to follow next week!) and in science looking at the senses hearing and touch. Computing will continue to practice logging on and using a mouse for drag and drop activities to build the children’s confidence. In PHSE we will be talking about the children’s bedtime routines, and we will also be learning some harvest-related songs to perform in assembly next week.

Miss Bartlett’s class will be swimming on Wednesday.
