Sonning Common Primary School

Space to learn, grow and be inspired

Term 6 Week 1

The children returned to school with much enthusiasm and got stuck straight into our new story…A Midsummer Night’s Dream. The children did well to wrap their heads around the twists and turns of this magical love story. As well as listening to the story, we made predictions, discussed the characters and created our own versions of the front cover. Next week we will be looking at a playscript version and acting out some of the scenes.

In history, our Anglo Saxon topic turned towards the Vikings. We discovered that holy places were not protected from viking attack and how their long boats made them extremely efficient.

In art, we learnt about weaving. We discussed how clothing is made from woven fabrics and had a go at some paper weaving. Some children found it a little fiddly, but showed great perseverance.

Year 4 will be using recorders for their music lesson on Monday, if your child has a recorder, please could you help to remind them to bring them in on Monday.

The weather has been very changeable this week. Lots of children have brought in spare shoes in case of wet weather on the field, thank you. If you have not done so already, we do encourage everyone to have something that they can change into, the grass on the field can make footwear very soggy. A change of shoes can help the children to feel more comfortable.

In preparation for Ufton Court, please make sure as much of the clothing, shoes, etc. are labelled with your child’s name. This will help us to ensure that all belongings are returned at the end of the trip. Click on the links for a reminder of the presentation and kit list.
