Sonning Common Primary School

Space to learn, grow and be inspired

Term 3 Week 6

This week the children have been broadening their poetry knowledge by looking at lots of examples and choosing some to perform to the class. This is great practice for the Poetry showcase that will be taking place after Easter. More details to follow.

This Tuesday was safer internet day. The children took part in a special assembly and some of the year 4’s have been sharing their knowledge of internet safety with the year 2’s and 3’s. The children were really confident in their delivery of information and were able to answer some questions from the younger children as well. We would encourage you to talk to your children about what they have learnt and take a look at any parental controls on devices to make sure that they are age appropriate.

Our Roman topic progressed onto the invasion of Britain this week. We learnt about the failed attempts, changes in leaders and other factors that led to Britain being invaded. Don’t forget to collect ice-cream tub lids and items to decorate mosaics with over half term. Dried lentils and beans would work well, as well as beads and shells.

There is no TTRS or spelling shed homework over the half term break. There is, however, a TTRS battle. Almost everyone got involved last time and it was a close call as to which class would win. Which class will win this time? Will we get a different top scorer?

There has been an increase in children bringing in small items from home that are not needed for the school day. Also, there have been some children swapping some of these items. We have encouraged swapped items to be returned and have advised the children that they can choose to do so outside of school with parental consent. We would appreciate it if you could remind your children that all toys and fidgets should be left at home.

Upcoming: 23rd February – author visit (Gareth Jones), 4JM/KC will be swimming on the first Thursday back after half term.

Wishing you a wonderful week,

The Year 4 Team
