This week, year 4 have been learning about two specific types of poetry – Kennings and Tetractys. They have enjoyed learning about their characteristics and having a go at writing their own.
The fractions unit in maths is going well, the children have shown that they are able to recall their learning from year 3 and are now building on this and extending their knowledge.
The children continue to enjoy our Roman topic, this week we looked in detail at soldiers in the legions and their attire. We also learnt about Augustus and the tactics that he introduced to make his army almost unstoppable. We continued this theme into our art lesson where we had a closer look at the shields and had a go at designing our own with elements that were important to us as individuals.
To end our week, we had a very tasty morning. The children (mostly) loved sampling the variety of smoothies, looking at the ingredients and deciding what they would like to include in their own recipes. The children have picked their ingredients and will have come home with a slip of paper with one of the ingredients for their group. We will be making the smoothie recipes next Friday and would appreciate it if the ingredients could be brought in on Friday. Please don’t bring them in earlier as we do not have the capacity to store them in our fridge.
Just a reminder for all that planners should be in school each day in case the children need their login details, there are also handy reference pages in them. Planners are looked at by staff on Thursdays where reading should be recorded and signed by an adult.
Important dates: half term – 16th-22nd February, 23rd February – Author visit to school, 26th February – K’nex workshop, 5th March – World Book Day
