Year 4 have worked really hard this week on putting their own words to the picture book ‘Flotsam’. They have got to grips with adding adverbs and using commas when listing items. They are currently finishing off writing their stories in their neatest handwriting ready for sticking into their profile books.
Year 4 would like to have a bit of a spelling drive to focus on the year 3/4 spelling lists. These are words that children should be familiar with and spell correctly by the end of year 4. If you could help out at home by picking one or two words each week and making sure that your child knows how to spell them, it would help tremendously. We will of course be working on these words with the children in class, but the little and often approach works well. See attached for the word list.
This week, and last, year 4 have undertaken another practice round in preparation for the MTC at the end of the year. There is no pass or fail for this check, the children simply answer 25 multiplication questions. I am pleased to report that the results of this round were a fantastic improvement on the first round! The children should be feeling very proud of themselves. All of their efforts and hard work is definitely paying off. Thank you to all of you that have supported and encouraged your children to practice their times tables, please keep it up!
In other areas, we have been linking some of our other lessons to our Roman topic. In PE, the children have been putting movement to ‘epic Roman music’ (think Gladiator soundtrack) and they have also been singing about the Romans as well. We spent a bit of time this week looking at time lines and how archaeologists look at how deep artifacts are buried to determine how old they are.
Upcoming events: Next week will be the turn of 4RF/CH to swim. Please bring kit. Thursday 12th February – Disco, Friday 13th February – term ends at 3:20.
