Sonning Common Primary School

Space to learn, grow and be inspired

Term 2 Week 3

We paused our work on the Iron Man briefly this week to do some reading comprehension practice. The children read three different styles of text and answered a variety of questions based on those texts. The children worked well on this and are showing improvement. For Big Write this week, we took the opportunity to have a free writing session. The children were given an image and a story starter and asked to think about what was going on and then given time to write their continuation of the story. It was a wonderful opportunity for the children to express themselves in their own story telling.

Sonning Common Primary was challenged to a battle on TTRS by The Hill School, Reading this week. Unfortunately, we didn’t come close to matching their efforts but a special shout out to Laurence H for being the top scorer for Sonning Common and the third top scorer overall. Well done to all who took on the challenge and played as much as they could.

Well done to all of the children who took part in the cross country event on Tuesday afternoon, it was a great sporting event and all participants did the school and themselves proud.

Please can we remind everyone that it is highly recommended that children bring a spare pair of trainers or shoes on Wednesdays for their PE session with Coach Joe. As the weather turns wetter, the field gets quite muddy. It is also recommended that the children bring in a separate bag to put their muddy trainers in. As the weather has turned colder, we also recommend that the children layer up to keep themselves warm.

A final note, quite a few children were trying to write with very small pencils this week, we have given out some spares but could we ask that you check to see if your children are in need of any new equipment for their pencil cases and replace as necessary. Thank you.

Upcoming events: 28th November – Non-uniform day, 29th November – Christmas Fair.
