Year 4 have had a great first week back.
We have been awarding lots of team points for the additional homework, the children have until next Friday to hand in any remaining pieces.
Excellent work on the battle, there were some truly spectacular scores! In the end 4JM/KC were victorious. The top scorers were for 4JM/KC were Laurence H, Myles and Joshua M. The top scorers for 4RF/CH were Olivia G, Tegan B and Sam P . We are looking forward to our next battle event…watch this space!
The children have enjoyed the start of The Iron Man and discussing how the opening lines of a book can set the tone for the rest of the story and then had a go at creating some story openers of their own. We also had great fun looking at how using onomatopoeia can help readers to imagine what you can hear in each scene.
In Big Write this week, the children took part in ‘Book Speed Dating’ where the children had one minute to tell another child about the book they were reading. This was a great activity and the children came away with a few ideas of books they might like to try to read.
In maths, we have begun our next unit which is looking at multiplication and division. The children have shown that they are becoming more confident with their times tables, now we will be challenging to apply their multiplication skills to some word problems as well as mastering the division facts.
Year 4 began a new topic this week, moving on from extreme earth, we are learning more in depth about mountains. This week, we recapped the layers of the earth and tectonic plates and then used that knowledge as the basis for understanding how mountains are formed. Over the coming weeks, we will look at mountain ranges as well as mountains in the UK.
As the weather turns wetter and colder, can everyone make sure that the children bring a coat to school as we do still like the children to be outside at break times as much as possible.
Upcoming events: Children in Need is on Friday 21st November (wear something for Pudsey), Christmas Fair is on Saturday 29th November.
