Space to learn, grow and be inspired

Week 7

What a busy week year 4 have had! On Monday, the children enjoyed making a lot of noise in the ‘Sounds Rubbish’ workshop and all looked amazing for their individual photos on Tuesday. Friday was our busiest day with groups of children taking part in their sponsored football matches and our year group activity. The children did a fantastic job of keeping their energy levels up and dancing, almost non-stop, for 40 minutes! We danced to a variety of songs; Waka Waka was a definite favourite! Don’t forget to send in your sponsorship forms and any money raised next week.

Have you ever wondered how wishes are granted from dropping a coin in a fountain? Year 4 found out in literacy this week! We watched The Wish Granter try many tools to help make a wish come true after he encountered a problem. We had a good discussion about what wishes we would make and other ways that wishes are made (e.g. birthday candles). Next week we will be looking at some short poems and practicing performing to the class.

In maths, we continue to look at how our place value knowledge can help us when we need to do addition and subtraction, as well as practicing the all important column method. Some of the children have been pushing themselves to apply their knowledge by tackling some word problems.

A big well done goes out to all the year 4 children! They completed their first practice MTC today. We will be having at look at the results of these soon and they will guide us to support the children in the right areas, whether it’s a particular set they find tricky or getting used to the soundcheck. The soundcheck game on TTRS is a great way to get them prepared for the next practice. Next week, the children are looking forward to taking part in a ‘battle’ event on TTRS. The year 4 classes will go head-to-head to see who can be at the top of the leader board. The battle will go live Thursday 23rd October until Thursday 6th November. The usual garage practice will not be set as homework during this time.

We will be encouraging children to have a go at some additional homework over the next few weeks. We are sending home a sheet with some ideas. Each activity will earn them extra team points, they have until 14th November to bring it in. Some of the children asked if they could recreate the volcano experiment that we did in class, this is a great idea! Just take a photo and email it in. Not all of the sheets went home today, if your child hasn’t got one, they should come home with one on Monday.

We hope everyone has a lovely weekend.
