Year 4 have been enjoying our wordless book Flotsam in Literacy where we learnt how an ‘old fashioned’ camera works. The children had all made predictions about what they thought the book would be about, I’m not sure any of them came close to guessing the surprise ending! Next week we shall be encouraging the children to put their own words to the story.
In Maths, we are nearing the end of our multiplication and division unit. The children have shown that they are now comfortable with more formal written methods for multiplication and can now have strategies to be able to divide bigger numbers. Our next units will be length and perimeter and fractions.
Mr Burrows announced this week a new oracy focus within the school – Speak Up! We spoke to the children about the importance of speaking, listening, being heard and being understood. The children have been given the opportunity to design a mascot for the scheme. We did some designs in class, but the children have until next Friday to hand in any other designs that they have created.
This term, it’s year 4’s turn to have some library lessons. The children will get 2 separate lessons in the coming weeks (one on fiction and one on non-fiction), I know the children enjoy time in the library and get a lot out these lessons.
We are continuing our Roman topic and have seen a great idea for making mosaics. If you happen to have, or are going to have, any Carte D’or/Lidl deluxe style ice cream tub lids, could we ask you to save them and bring them in? Once we have collected enough, we will have a go at this fun craft idea.
Reminder that this coming week is 4JM/KC’s turn in the swimming pool on Thursday, so please bring swimming kit in on that day.
