Sonning Common Primary School

Space to learn, grow and be inspired

End of term 2 – Merry Christmas

Earlier in the week, year 4 were captivated by the animated version of the Iron Man, The Iron Giant. This version really helped to bring the story to life.

In literacy, we have been practicing performing some short Christmas poetry. The children were great at memorising the lines of the poems and working together as a group to perform.

In other areas, the children enjoyed some festivities with the Christmas lunch on Wednesday where they enjoyed pulling crackers and being served by the teachers. We also had some festive music playing in the hall and on the playground. The carol service was amazing, thank you everyone for coming and making it such a special event.

There is no spelling home work over the Christmas break but there is a TTRS battle. Please participate and help your class to win!

In the new year we will be starting off our Roman topic and have invited ‘Off the Page’ to come into school to help us learn in a more immersive way. This will be on the first Thursday back, 8th January. We would love it if the children could get dressed up for the day but please don’t feel that you have to spend a lot on a costume, a simple white sheet or pillow case can be made into a very effective toga! See here for a tutorial. As part of the day, children will be sampling some food. If any of your children have allergies, there will be alternatives provided. We hope it will be a day to remember.

Thank you all so much for the cards and gifts, we feel truly blessed to have such a lovely year group.

The Year 4 team would like to wish everyone a very merry Christmas and a happy new year. See you all (bright eyed and bushy tailed) on Tuesday January 6th 2026!
