Year 4 have written some amazing descriptions of the main character from the story of the Dream Giver this week, as well as mapping out the story. This activity really helped the children to pin-point the key events of the story. Next week, the children will be changing elements of the story to make their own version of the Dream Giver.
In maths, we finished off our place value unit with some problem solving questions and also looked at Roman Numerals. Our next unit is on addition and subtraction, with a focus on word problems and using efficient strategies.
In other subjects, we have learnt what happens when an earthquake happens underwater and the children have been creating posters using all of the facts that they have learnt about Buddhism.
Year 4 also took part in a flamenco workshop on Thursday. We had lots of positive feedback from the children. It was a wonderful opportunity for the children to learn about the history of the dance and it’s beginnings in caves to being able to learn the vocabulary and also perform. It was great to see the children so engaged in this cultural experience.
As you will know from the welcome meeting, this year the children will complete a multiplication times table check (MTC) towards the end of the year. In preparation for this, we will be doing a practice version in school on Friday 17th October. The MTC is not a pass or fail test, it is a useful assessment tool that help to ensure that children are supported. The results of this will help direct us to where children need to focus and will let you know your child’s results. More information on the MTC can be found here: gov.uk
Upcoming events: Tuesday 14th – individual photos, Thursday 16th – disco, Friday 17th – Fundraising event in school.
