Hello, and welcome to another weekly Year 5 update. You will have received a message from the office about the warm weather we’ll be experiencing over the next few days. Please do make sure that your children are well equipped for this. They should come to school with a water bottle and a sun hat, and ideally they will have some suncream on. Thank you.
This week, your children have been up to the following:
- In literacy, we’ve been working hard on writing a biography of Roald Dahl. We’ll finish it next week.
- In maths, we’ve either been learning about translating shapes and relfection, or working on volume.
- We started a new topic in geography about map reading. This week, we were using atlases to find places and natural features.
- In computing, we have been making stop-motion animations.
- In science, we have been learning how humans grow in the womb.
Spellings
This week, we looked at some ‘challenge’ words in class (i.e. words that have irregular spelling patterns). They are: achieve, apparent, bargain, bruise, community, mischievous, muscle, necessary, vehicle and system.
Sports Day
We are intending to hold Sports Day on the school field on the morning of Tuesday 23rd June, subject to the weather. We would like all children to wear a t-shirt that is the colour of the house they are in (Air = Yellow, Fire = Red, Earth = Green, Water = Blue).
Non-uniform day
Ahead of the Summer Fair next Saturday, next Friday (26th) will be a non-uniform day. Alongside this, we would really appreciate it if you could also donate one of the following things on that day for the Fair:
- Bottle for the adult’s tombola
- A jam jar filled with sweets or little toys for the children’s tombola
- Preloved toys for our sale
- Suitable donations for our raffle
Summer Fair
A message from the PTA:
We are looking forward to welcoming you all to our upcoming Summer Fair on Saturday 27th June 12-3pm. However, in order for the day to run as smoothly as possible we would gratefully appreciate an hour of your time to help run the stalls. If you have any time to help set up or man a stall, please follow this link or the QR code below, to let us know your availability to help us make this Summer Fair one to remember.
PE
PE will be on Monday and Friday this week, and they will both be outdoors, so please make sure your children are dressed appropriately for the (hopefully) clement conditions.
We hope you have a lovely weekend, and we will see your children bright and early on Monday morning.
